Angry protesters on Tuesday evening torched a vehicle of Border Roads organization on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Wanpoh in Khudwani area of Kulgam even as police resorted to teargas shelling to quell the protesters, witnesses said.

Kulgam Tuesday observed complete shutdown against the killing of a civilian and two militants in yesterday’s encounter.

They told GNS that a Tata Mobile (Jnb0nc-19954) was set ablaze at around 6:30 PM while protesters also pelted stones at the vehicles. A police officer said that a case has been registered and investigation taken up.

Meanwhile, in order to control the situation, sources said that government forces resorted fired tear smoke shells at protesters. When reports last came in, the clashes were going on in the area.

A BRO official here said that none of its personnel were injured in the incident involving torching of the beacon vehicle belonging to its Verinag unit.
