Protests erupted in city centre against the National Food Security Act with protestors demanding reversal of the order.

The protestors from Abi Guzar area, chanting slogans of “Kashmiriyuon Pe Zulm Band Karo” and “Governor ki Gunda Gardi Nahin Chali Gi” blocked busy Residency road before police swung in to action.

“Our staple food is rice and outside model of chappatis is being implemented here,” alleged the protestors.

NFSA is being implemented in J&K from February 15 and each member of a family will be provided a ration of 5kgs.

The NFSA implementation in state came under severe criticism from all quarters.

Passed by former Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress government, PDP-BJP government paved way for its implementation in J&K and it was formally launched on February 15.

The protestors also alleged that a stock of ration is lying at Abi Guzar ration depot and they are being not provided ration by the ration keeper.

Meanwhile, reports of protests from Ganderbal against NFSA said that people got agitated when they were provided with a ration of 3kgs rice and 2kg atta.
