Clashes erupted in Pulwama district on Wednesday between youth and forces.

Witnesses said that the forces were deployed in strength in Pulwama town to prevent “Kulgam Chalo” march called by the resistance leadership.

They said that shopkeepers in the morning opened their shops and started normal business amid deployment of forces. However at around 11 am groups of youth assembled in Muran chowk and pelted stones at CRPF. Though the authorities made additional deployment and managed to drive away the youth.

At around 1 pm, witnesses said, youth in large numbers again assembled, held protests and resorted to heavy stone throwing triggering fierce clashes and shutdown in the town. The forces, witnesses said, resorted to heavy teargas shelling and fired warning shots to disperse the youth.
