Scores of people Friday held pro-freedom demonstrations in Palhallan area of Pattan.
Reports said that announcements were made on Masjid loudspeakers asking people to come out for peaceful protests.
“As soon as the Friday prayers were over, people, particularly youth, assembled and started marching towards Srinagar Baramulla highway,” a local told Kashmir Life over phone.
He said, police and paramilitary forces, who were deployed in strength, stopped the protesters from moving ahead, triggering clashes.
“Forces used teargas shells to disperse the protesters.”
Clashes were going on when reports last came in.
