Violent protests erupted in Maisuma area of the city after JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik was arrested on Friday. Malik had to lead a dharna in Lal Chowk in connection with the ‘Quit Kashmir’ campaign and against the Israeli bombing on Palestine.

Hundreds of protesters came on roads and started protesting against the arresting of Malik. The protesters raised anti-India slogans and when the men in uniform swung into action they pelted stones forcing the shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.

Reports said many protesters were arrested on the occasion.

Meanwhile, students of Kashmir University held protests against Israeli action on people of Gaza in which scores of persons, including women and children, have been killed.

Reports said immediately after the Friday prayers, the students assembled outside the University Mosque and shouted slogans against Israel. “Down with Israel,” they shouted. The students also raised anti-India slogans.
