Protests and clashes were reported from North Kashmir’s Palhallan area of Baramulla. Kashmir was hut Tuesday against the landing of Indian troops in valley in 1947.

The shutdown call was given by various separatists groups including Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani.

“Early morning a group of youth assembled near JK Bank Palhallan and started shouting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans. Meanwhile a large contingent of police, CRPF which were deployed in the area chased away youth to the interiors of Palhallan. However, in the meanwhile, clashes broke out between forces and youth,” a local from the area said.

“Forces used smoke canisters, “sound grenades” and pellets resulting in the injuries to several youth. One of the injured youth is identified as Amir Ahmad Bhat who got pellet injuries on his face,” the local added.

“The locals alleged that forces broke window panes of Masjid Abu Bakr Palhallan,” they said. When the news spread in the area, announcements were made on loudspeakers asking people to protest against the “high handedness of forces”.
