Protests rocked University of Kashmir on Monday after its students alleged harassment by the proctorial staff and J&K police.

Students earlier took out a rally inside the Hazratbal campus and raised protests against the attacks on Kashmiri students studying outside Jammu and Kashmir.

“We were holding peaceful protests outside Humanities Block when proctorial staff and JKP cops snatched Identity cards of some students,” one of the students said. “They harassed us; they threatened us that our careers would be destroyed.”

The students are holding protests against the “drama” created by the mainland Indian electronic media over National Institute of Technology (NIT Hazratbal) issue. “Kashmiri students are being harassed day in and day out in Indian states but there is no news nor any voice raised over such cases,” the students said, “we demand that Kashmiri students studying in mainland India be given full security.”

“The ID cards were returned only after students held heavy protests against the highhandedness of the proctorial staff and cops,” the students said.
