SRINAGAR

Massive protests erupted on Friday at Padshahi Bagh area of Srinagar against Police failure to nab the culprits of a 16-year-old boy Zahid Iqbal whose body was found on the banks of River Jhelum last week. Protesting against the delay in Police investigations,  people turned to streets holding slogans “Katiloon ko pesh karo” (bring culprits before public).

The protest rally dispersed peacefully after police assured a week’s time to solve the case.

Zahid’s family while talking to GNS reiterated that their son was murdered. They blamed Police of not taking the case seriously. “There were visible injury marks on his body which is clear indication of murder,” the family alleged and demanded immediate arrest of culprits.

“We have been assured by Police that culprits will be brought to book within a week but we will strengthen protests if police fails to arrest the criminals,” the deceased’s cousin, Saleem Ahmad while talking to GNS said.

When contacted Station House Officer (SHO) Sadder, Abdul Majeed told this news agency that enquiry under section 174 CRPC is going on. “We are waiting for Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report as we can’t say at this stage whether it was a murder or had he (Zahid) consumed poison or died while swimming,” SHO said, adding that after getting the FSL report by Monday we will brief accordingly what had happened.”

It is pertinent to mention here that on August 26, a 16-year-old boy Zahid Iqbal, resident of Padshahi Bagh was found floating on River Jhelum near Lalla Ded Hospital who was missing from August 23.
