Life in South Kashmir town of Islamabad was thrown out of gear Saturday and protesters clashed with forces over alleged reports of excesses by the J&K police personnel.

Shops and business establishments did not resume their routine work early today in protest against the instances of ransacking and beating by cops.

Locals alleged that police smashed windowpanes of residential houses at Cheeni Chowk, Malakhnag and Reshi Bazar areas of the town last evening and even thrashed elderly inmates.

Angry protesters shouted to anti-police slogans triggering clashes in many parts of the town, eye-witnesses said.

Reports added that forces used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
