Ahead of polls in Kashmir, the authorities have invoked the Public Safety Act, against Kashmiri youth Shakeel Ahmed Bhat, popularly known as ‘Islamic Rage Boy’  who was released by authorities in May this year from Srinagar Central Jail.

Shakeel Ahmed Bhat resident of Malik Angan Fathe Kadal Srinagar was languishing in jail from past six years, and was released by authorities in May this year. He was arrested in 2008 on the charges of organizing protests against police while authorities had slapped 17 PSA’s on him.

Democratic Political Movement General Secretary, Advocate Muhammad Shafi Reshi told CNS that Shakeel Ahmed Butt was recently arrested and lodged at Maharajganj Police Station in Srinagar. “Soon after invoking PSA on him, Shakeel was shifted to Udhampur jail,” he said adding that it is the first PSA that authorities have invoked on any Kashmiri youth before the onset of Assembly elections in the State.
