SRINAGAR: All public sector banks and regional rural banks will remain open and operate normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026, ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30.
The decision has been taken to ensure continued availability of banking services to customers in the event of the strike, which has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).
September 27 falls immediately before the proposed strike and follows the weekend holidays on September 26 and 27. Opening banks on the Sunday is intended to prevent customers from facing an extended interruption in access to banking services.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the opening of all bank branches and offices, along with ATM-linked branches and currency chests, on September 27.
The government and bank managements have appealed to the unions to defer the proposed strike, while stating that arrangements have been made to maintain the delivery of essential banking services.
Officials said the decision to keep banks operational on September 27 was aimed at ensuring that customers’ genuine banking requirements were not affected over an extended period covering the weekend holidays and the proposed strike.
The Department said the welfare and convenience of bank customers remained a priority and that necessary measures had been taken to minimise any disruption to banking services.
