Pulwama DDB Meet May 16, 2016

Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri Monday asked the officers to ensure focused development by prioritizing issues of public interest so that tangible results are realized on ground level.

The Minister, who is also Chairman District Development Board Pulwama, was addressing the DDB meeting in Pulwama, an official spokesperson said this evening.

Minister for Finance, Dr Haseeb A Drabu, Minister of State for Forests, Mir Zahoor Ahmed, Member Parliament, Nazir Ahmed Laway, Legislators, Mohammad Khalil Band and Mushtaq Ahmed Shah also attended the meeting. Besides, Heads of Departments, Chief Engineers, sectoral and district officers were also present.

Veeri asked district administration to be vibrant and proactive in resolving the people’s problem. He also asked the officers to conceive development projects in such a way that the same are completed within the set time-frame to avoid cost overrun.

The Minister said Pulwama district will get priority in R&B sector and directed for formulation of action plan for some vital roads that need immediate up-gradation.

The Minister said that Agriculture and its allied sectors are vital for growth of rural economy which shall get special attention. He also asked Director Education to put some revolutionary step in education department as it is the basic sector for overall development of any society.

The Board approved current year’s Plan outlay of Rs 119.86 crore for the district which include Rs 33.48 crore for MGNREGA, IAY and other schemes of Rural Development Department; Rs 15.65 crore for Roads and Buildings; Rs 4.69 crore for minor irrigation; Rs 2.02 crore for elementary education; Rs 12.76 crore for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan; Rs 24.16 crore for RAMSA; Rs 2.56 crore for Health sector and Rs 5.32 crore for PHE.

The Board also reviewed Action Taken Report (ATR) of last year’s Board decisions and Chief Minister’s commitments. It was informed that out of 29 decisions 11 have been implemented, while as implementation of rest of the decisions is in progress.

Earlier, District Development Commissioner, Pulwama gave a detailed resume of the achievements registered during last year and informed that out of available outlay of Rs 65.86 crore, Rs 60.51 crore, were utilized for the execution of various developmental works and welfare schemes.

Referring to physical achievements, the Deputy Commissioner said that during last financial year 177 km of road length were macadamized, 3 bridges at Guripora, Tengpona and Sail completed while as 3 other bridges are near completion. Under PHE sector 8 water supply schemes have been completed while in health sector 5 buildings have been completed while as IPD block district Hospital nearing completion.

Under Education sector, it was informed that 4 High School buildings at Putrigam, Gulistan Tral, Lassipora and Tral Bala have been completed.

Under Rural Development sector 1733 works completed under MGNREGA generating 6.71 lakh man-days besides 5963 individual household latrines constructed and 919 houses constructed under IAY.

Dr Haseeb A Drabu who is representing Rajpora constituency urged officers to ensure proper projection of developmental projects so that need oriented infrastructure would come up at ground level.

Mir Zahoor Ahmed representing Pampore, MP and MLAs also projected various developmental issues of their concerned constituencies.
