South Kashmir’s Pulwama Thursday erupted in protest after forces killed two militants during an overnight gunbattle.

One among the two militants was identified as Manzoor A Bhat of Pulwama’s  Kakapora.

Earlier while acting on a tip-off, a joint force of police’s SOG and army’s RR laid cordon in Pulwama’s Gasu village. During the search operation, the army said, the militants “holed up” inside a house tried to escape by firing indiscriminately, triggering a gunfight.

Meanwhile as the word of the killing spread, youth came out in Pulwama town and staged protests. Police had to resort to tear-gas shelling to disperse the protesters.
