An army man who was injured in the militant attack at Kakapora in Pulwama on late Sunday night, succumbed to injuries in a military hospital here.
Official sources said that suspected militants opened fire upon army’s 50 RR camp at Kakapora.
While confirming the incident, a top police official said that militants fired upon the army camp late this night.
The fire was retaliated by army triggering off a brief encounter.
During the firing exchange, one civilian and one army man had sustained injuries.
Sources said army man was immediately evacuated to 92 base hospital Badamibagh where he succumbed.
An army spokesperson, Colonel Rajesh Kalia, said in a statement, “In a cowardly and provocative act of terror, terrorists carried out a stand-off attack on Kakapora Army Camp. one soldier martyred.”
Sources said that the injured civilian namely Bilal Ahmad Ganie, a sumo driver by profession of Narwa Kakapora received critical bullet wounds in his head and died on the spot.
However, SSP Pulwama said that the civilian was shifted to PHC Kakapora where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the body of slain has been shifted to police station Kakapora.
