Police on Monday issued following statement regarding Lassipora gunfight saying that said that on a credible input a cordon and search operation was launched at Lassipora area in District Pulwama, by Police and security forces.

A police spokesman in a statement said during searches, militants fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

“In the ensuing encounter, four militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Their identities and affiliations are being ascertained,” said the spokesman.

“In the initial exchange of fire three army men and one policeman sustained injuries. They have been hospitalised for the treatment of their injuries and are stated to be stable,” he said.

“Pertinently with the efforts of police and security forces, it was a clean operation and no collateral damage happened during the encounter,” he added.

“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case,” the spokesman said.

“Citizens are requested not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
