SRINAGAR
As thousands of students marched on Monday against weekend police raids in Pulwama, there are seven students who have received pretty serious injuries, news reports quoting hospital sources suggest.

Iqra, a student of Nawa Kadal College in main Srinagar, was hit by a student when she was part of a peaceful protest. A security man had used his catapult to target her. This archaic tamasha is part of CRPF’s routine weaponry, especially for the stone marksmen. The stone hit left side of her head, created a contusion and fracture. Resident of Rajouri Kadal, she is being treated at SMHS hospital.

Basit Khurshid is from Shopian. While his body is literally potholed by pellets, one of the pellets has pierced his skull and gone into head. A resident of Bongam in Shopian, the pellet has gone in through his left eye socket. He has already lost his right eye. Interestingly Basit was not a student but was caught between police and students!

Umar Majid is another injured. A resident of Srinagar he has an injury in the right eye orbit.

Most of the injured were tackled by the peripheral medical facility thus sending only serious cases to Srinagar. SMHS Medical Superintendent said they got seven injured youth of whom three had pellets – two in eyes, one had a teargas shell in his foot and three more with stone injuries including Iqra.
