A day after a civilian was killed in Rafiabad area of district Baramulla, the inhabitants Sunday staged a protest against the killers and were demanding arrest of the involved persons.

According to the eyewitnesses, hundreds of local inhabitants including men, women and children took to streets and blocked the road for several hours here at Rafiabad. The protesters were chanting slogans like ‘Katiloon ko Peash karo’ (arrest the killers).

The protesters according to the sources have said that persons involved in the killing of a civilian should be hanged. “The police officials should arrest the involved persons at earliest. The killing of locals has become worrisome among the residents as the people won’t dare to go outside from their respective homes after 6 PM,” they said.

Meanwhile, SDPO Rafiabad, Shabir Ahmad Khan visited the spot where he assured protests that they will arrest the involved persons at earliest and strong action will be taken against them.

After the assurances of Khan, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

Pertinently, a snack vendor was killed by the unidentified persons on Saturday evening in Behrampora area of Rafiabad.

A 45-year-old Ghulam Mohammad Tantray, S/O Ghulam Ahmad Tantray, father of five – 4 daughters and a son all of age between 12-25, his wife Saja is mentally retarded, he was the only bread owner of his family was stabbed to death by unknown persons at Behrampora when he was on way to his home Saturday late evening.

However, he was rushed to Sopore hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Meanwhile, SHO Dangiwacha while talking to KNS said that they have already registered First Information Report (FIR) under no 67/2015- U/S 302 in this regard.

He further stated that the investigation is going on.
