SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness scattered rain and thunderstorms in the Jammu division and isolated light rain or thunderstorms in Kashmir during the next 24 hours, according to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar.
The weather department, in its bulletin issued at 11 am on Sunday, said isolated light rain or thunderstorms are also likely to continue over Jammu and Kashmir during the subsequent two days.
During the past 24 hours till 8:30 am, maximum temperatures remained 0-1°C near normal at many places in Kashmir division, while they were 1-2°C above normal at many places in Jammu division.
Qazigund recorded the highest maximum temperature in Kashmir at 27.2°C, while Jammu recorded the highest in Jammu division at 32.7°C.
Night temperatures remained below normal across the region. The minimum temperature was 1-2°C below normal at many places in Kashmir and 1-3°C below normal at many places in Jammu division.
Gulmarg was the coldest recorded station in Kashmir with a minimum temperature of 8.0°C, while Banihal recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Jammu division at 12.6°C.
The highest precipitation during the past 24 hours was recorded at Kathua-Burmal, which received 19.5 mm of rainfall.
Seven-day weather outlook
The IMD forecast indicates isolated rainfall activity in Kashmir on September 6, while Jammu is likely to receive scattered rainfall.
From September 7 to September 10, isolated rainfall is forecast for both Kashmir and Jammu divisions. Scattered rainfall activity is likely across both divisions on September 11 and 12.
For Jammu and Kashmir as a whole, the forecast is for scattered rainfall on September 6, followed by isolated activity from September 7 to 10 and scattered activity again on September 11 and 12.
No warning for Kashmir
The weather department has issued no weather warning or specific adverse-weather impact for Kashmir division during the seven-day forecast period.
For Jammu division, however, an isolated spell of heavy rain, thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph is possible on September 6.
The bulletin also indicates isolated thunderstorm, lightning and gusty-wind activity of 30-40 kmph during parts of the later forecast period.
The local forecast for September 7 says Srinagar is likely to have a partly cloudy sky, with the maximum temperature around 30°C and minimum around 16°C.
Jammu is also expected to have a partly cloudy sky, with temperatures around 34°C during the day and 25°C at night.
The IMD has classified the expected precipitation distribution using terms including isolated (1-25 per cent of stations reporting precipitation), scattered (26-50 per cent), fairly widespread (51-75 per cent) and widespread (76-100 per cent).
According to the bulletin, sunrise in Srinagar on September 7 is expected at 6:08 am, while sunset on September 6 is at 6:50 pm. In Jammu, sunrise is expected at 6:09 am and sunset at 6:49 pm.
