SRINAGAR

Kashmir is likely to witness pleasant weather from Friday as the MeT office here maintained that heavy rainfall may likely to occur at different places across Valley till Friday evening.

“The intensity and quantum of rain will be almost same on Thursday as it was recorded on Wednesday. From Thursday evening, the rain and thunder showers will stop and from Friday the weather will remain pleasant for the coming three to four days,” a MeT official told CNS.

He said that due to commencement of monsoon in North India, Kashmir has been witnessing frequent downpours and this time as well the downpour is attributed to the monsoon.  “We are expecting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers at many places in the state till Thursday evening,” the official said.

Meanwhile, as usual, the downpour resulted in the water-logging of roads and streets in Srinagar city. Due to continuous downpour, the water level in the Jhelum has started to increase, however, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Javid Jaffar said that there is no threat of floods so far in Kashmir Valley.
