SRINAGAR: Rajouri in Jammu & Kashmir is again marred by tragedy as leaders from across the political spectrum unite in grief over the lives lost in an ongoing encounter. The loss of five soldiers, including officers, has prompted expressions of condolences and condemnation from prominent figures in the region.

Former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, in a statement, lamented the loss, stating, “Heartbreaking to see officers & jawans lose their lives in the line of duty despite GOI’s misleading false claims that all is well in J&K. The price of this facade is being borne by them & innocent civilians who’ve become collateral damage in unabated violence. My deepest sympathies with their families & loved ones.”

National Conference Vice President Omar also condemned the attack, saying, “Terrible news from Rajouri where 4 army personnel including 2 officers have laid down their lives in the line of duty. While condemning the continuing efforts to spread militancy into hitherto peaceful areas of Pir Panchal region I send my sincere condolences to the families of those who offered the ultimate sacrifice today.”

Former Chief Minister of J&K and Chairman Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed his condemnation as well, stating on Twitter, “Today in Rajouri we lost 2 brave officers and 2 jawans in the line of duty fighting for our better & secure tomorrow while one soldier is critically injured. My heart goes out to the families of these bravehearts & share their grief. I also pray for the speedy recovery of the injured one. Terrorism is a curse against humanity and deserves the strongest condemnation!”

The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) also issued a strong condemnation in response to the ongoing attack in Rajouri. The alliance emphasized that such incidents only serve to exacerbate issues rather than contributing to their resolution, stating, “Jammu and Kashmir’s residents have endured the heavy toll of violence for over three decades, with a prolonged history of turmoil resulting in widespread devastation and compounding their existing challenges.”

Expressing solidarity with the families of the soldiers who lost their lives, PAGD underscored the importance of finding non-violent and inclusive solutions to the region’s longstanding issues. The alliance urged a collective effort to address grievances and work towards lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement released by Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, the alliance reiterated its commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir through diplomatic and peaceful means.
