Reacting to the Chief Minister’s information given to the legislative assembly regarding the Fidayeen attack in Bemina Srinagar , MLA Langate Er Rasheed said that the mere statements and condemning the attacks will not stop attacks by the militants on forces or someone else nor can be atrocities committed by the forces on civilians and unarmed protestors be stopped.
He said the only way to avoid death and destruction is to solve the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir.
Independent lawmaker was speaking in the state assembly on Wednesday. He termed the decision of PDP to boycott the remaining part of the session as unfortunate and said that he was expecting to fight for the genuine rights of Kashmiri people inside the state assembly in cooperation and coordination with the largest opposition.
Rasheed said that assembly is the proper platform even under all worst situations for the legislators to represent the aspirations of the people as there are many other people fighting for the same causes outside the state assembly.
“It will be appropriate for any legislator to fight for the rights of his people inside the assembly as long as he continues to be in office irrespective of the outcome,” Rasheed said.
He added that the way Kashmiris are being rendered helpless every second in their life on account of state terrorism and loose people like Afzal Guru and Tahir Sofi at the hands of state’s brutality has snatched the right to condemn attacks of the militants from those who project themselves as champions of humanity but keep mum over the helplessness of common unarmed Kashmiris.
Rasheed said, “The militants attacks from Hyderabad to Bemina are a reaction to the hanging of Afzal Guru” adding “the best way to stop these incidents is that governmemt of India should take bold initiatives to settle the political dispute of Jammu & Kashmir by starting tripartite talks with Pakistan and Kashmiris”.
He also cautioned the state government about the threats to separatist leaders by DG police of slapping them PSA for issuing protest calendars. “The Mutahida Majlis-e-Mashawrat (MMM) is purely a political platform”.
