Srinagar: From past couple of months, people in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district have been immensely suffering as the post of Executive Engineer roads and buildings is lying vacant.

The contractors of rural development department of Kulgam have complained of hurdles in their projects due to the non-availability of a permanent officer.

The government has been taking no steps to depute official for this post. “It seems government has no knowledge about it. People are being taken for a ride and nobody bothers for them,” said a local resident.

“I have been coming here to get my bills signed but from past one month, I am being told that Government will soon depute the official,” a contractor said.

“The department lacks a permanent authority which causes a lot of problems to us.Three months have passed and the department is yet to depute any executive engineer, this shows how careless the government is towards different projects of the department,” said Mohammad Tahir, coordinator Contractors coordination committee R&B division Kulgam.

“The current Executive engineer is deputed here on additional powers and is currently posted in Qazigund, so he visits here occasionally,” he added.

“Our payments are pending for a long time, and moreover construction of various projects of the district also delayed due to vacant post,” said another contractor.

When contacted Mohammad Ramzan Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) R&B Division Kulgam he said,”no doubt the current Executive Engineer is not able to give enough time to Kulgam division but the work is going on smoothly.”

“Government has its own policies, but now the assembly is over hopefully the post will be filled soon,” he added.
