Minister for R&B, Gardens Parks and Floriculture, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari held first Grievance Redressal Camp here in PWD Complex at Rajbagh Srinagar Monday and listened to grievances of the People of the Valley. Most of the grievances were pertaining to macadamization of roads, land compensation, rehabilitation of shopkeepers, house and land owners, repairs and construction of lanes, drains and bridges, development of parks, settlement of pending payments of contractors and encroachment of roads.

In most of the cases, the Minister issued on-the- spot instruction to the concerned engineers for resolving the problems of the people, an official statement said this evening.

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated the Grievance Cell established in the complex, with toll free number 18001807093 on which people can register their grievances and complaints from 8 AM to 8 PM daily.

The Minister said that setting-up of grievance cell is aimed to address the grievances and problems of the people. He said such camps would be initially held quarterly and later on after every two months in Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

Bukhari said that over 200 persons, individually and groups attended the camp in which 70 percent cases were disposed off on the spot. He asked engineers to mobilize all field functionaries and remove all the road encroachments and ensure that no road encroachment takes place in their jurisdictions.

R&B Minister said that 1400 km of road length has been upgraded and macadamized in the Valley during past five months. Responding to the demands of the people, the Minister assured them that all remaining roads would now be macadamized next year in view of the dipping day temperature in the Valley. He asked engineers to prioritize the roads next year as demanded by people in the camp today.

Regarding widening of Naseem bagh-Malbagh-Illahibagh road, the Minister elucidated upon the deputation that this road could not be taken up immediately due to non-availability of funds. He said the project involves maximum funds for acquisition of land and structures.

Regarding the working of complaint and grievance management cell, the Minister said that persons without internet can reach this system through SMS based complaints. He said urgent, most important and serious grievance will directly be diverted to Ministers’ phone while the complainant can upload video, audio and document proof on the web. He said necessary steps would be taken to make the system more effective and easy for public to register their grievances.
