Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Fridaye suggested to  PDP-BJP coalition government to simply the registration procedure for distressed widows, aged and disabled persons desirous of relief from social welfare and other government agencies.

Accroding to a party statement, PDP General Secretary Nizamudin Bhat also sought enhancement of relief component as the present assistance limit is insufficient.

“Interacting with individuals suffering from such distress,” Bhat, according to the statement, “acknowledged that the procedures for registration as in vogue are cumbersome and lengthy. The weak  and poor claiming financial assistance need not to be put to such a burden when other easier means can be conceived and relied upon.”

Bhat proposed that local Panchayat or Nambardars and Chowkidars could be assigned the job of undertaking periodical surveys for registration of individuals deserving relief in their respective areas.

He said at present the burden is on the individuals themselves who have to seek assistance from social welfare or labour department and it takes them months to fulfill the prescribed  formalities in respective offices.

“Bhat pointed out that many needy people abandon exercise “half way and several others die before they are registered”.

“A quick , simple and supportive procedure at gross-root level could serve well the objective of relief,” he added.

He was told that while thousands of registered cases in state “are in pendency, large number remains unattended as unregistered”.

“Jammu & Kashmir state for known reasons has a several number of widows, orphans, distressed and disabled people who need financial protection and psychological relief. This can come through compassionate policy with adequate relief component and accessible and easy approach,” the statement quoted Bhat as having said. He hoped government will soon review present policy to make it more convenient and purposeful.
