Terming the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in J&K as a step in haste, Youth National Conference Tuesday demanded that the act in its current form be rolled back and appealed the Governor to issue necessary orders in this regard. Simultaneously it was demanded that J&K Police profiling based on religious sects be stopped as it can lead to divisions within the society.

In a joint statement Provincial President Salman Ali Sagar and Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar while calling NFSA as anti-people said, “The way NFSA has been implemented in J&K speaks volumes about intentions of the government. Notwithstanding large scale apprehensions with respect to the Act, the government in its naivety went ahead and put in operation such an act which has left thousands of genuine ration card holders high and dry,” adding, “It seems that government is pursuing an agenda aimed at putting divisions within the society by profiling Kashmiris based on their choice of sect/masalak. If not stopped immediately it has the potential of inflicting large scale damage in a sensitive place like Kashmir.”

In a one day south zone convention organized at Islamabad, Salman questioned state machinery for its absolute disregard to the demands of people who are protesting against NFSA in every nook and corner of the state. “I fail to understand what prevents government from doing a review to NFSA considering the ramifications it has for J&K and its people,” he said.

Lambasting the government for its hasty decision while implementing NFSA in J&K, Imran said, “The irony is that when PDP-BJP government was in place, they missed no chance in eulogizing the act but now they too are questioning the Act. It is strange considering they are the ones who put this Act in black and white and are now trying to fool people with such theatrics.”

In their concluding remarks YNC leaders stressed upon party functionaries to strengthen party at grass root levels and carry forward the mission of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and a battery of other NC leaders who have given utmost sacrifice in making the lives of people better.

“It is leaders like Nazir sb whose death anniversary we are observing and who by his dedication and foresight has given us a platform where we all have a chance to work for betterment of our people whether it is Kashmir Jammu or Ladakh. Now the baton has been transferred to youth who have to help achieve NC its rightful place by making Dr Farooq Abdullah’s and Omar Abdullah’s vision strong in their respective areas,” the joint statement further said.

Meanwhile, National Conference paid glowing tributes to Veteran NC Leader and Former General Secretary Advocate Sheikh Nazir Ahmed on his First Death Anniversary.

Party President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah have highlighted Sheikh Nazir Ahmed’s unparalleled contribution to the party and termed him as a statesman who stood in defence of his principles till his last breath.

“Sheikh Nazir was a courageous son of the soil who served the people and his party without any self-seeking ambitions.  He never aspired for a position of power in the Government, nor did he advance any personal goals. He always maintained a close rapport with the party workers and remained accessible to them even when his health was in shambles. Nazir Sahab stood by his principles till his last breath and never compromised on his ideology and views. He was an honest and hardworking leader who epitomized simplicity in his personal life. On his first death anniversary, we salute Nazir Sahab’s legacy and pay glowing tributes to him,” NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah said in his message issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar.

National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah has also paid glowing tributes to Sheikh Nazir Ahmed on his first death anniversary. “Nazir Sahab’s demise created a vacuum not only within National Conference but also in the State’s polity that will be very hard to fill. His service towards his people remained the focal point of his life and he devoted his entire life in serving the party. Nazir Sahab’s honesty and steadfastness continues to inspire the rank and file of the party and we will all carry forward his legacy and struggle by serving our people”, Omar said in his message.
