SRINAGAR: Prof AG Mir, a distinguished academician and Professor of English passed away at around 11:30 pm on October 17, 2024. His Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayer) was offered at 10 am on October 18, in his native village, Munad Guffan, Yaripora, Kulgam.
Prof Mir was a revered figure in the academic circles of South Kashmir, known for his immense contributions to the field of English education. He played a pivotal role in introducing the English language to many students and had a lasting impact on their lives, both as a teacher and a mentor. His teaching career at Government Degree College Boys Anantnag and his involvement with the South Kashmir Civil Society (SKCS), where he served as Chairman, earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and students alike.
His death came as a shock to the audience who heard him speaking at the Radisson Hotel in Srinagar on Wednesday at a Seerat Conference organised by ZIST. “He was all right and he delivered an impressive speech,” one person who attended the conference said. “It shocked.”
