Former director information Farooq Renzu was among fifteen ‘prominent’ people who joined congress and whose membership was accepted by Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday.

Sources in congress informed Kashmir Life that Renzu and others had earlier ‘wished’ to join the party and it was today that Sonia accepted their ‘wish’ with immediate effect.

They added that apart from Renzu whose ‘wish’ was ‘accepted’ by the Congress president are M Aslam Goni, Thakur Balbir Singh, Gurbachan Kour, Ghulam Hassan Gilani, Tassaduq Hussain, Shafiq Mir, Zahida Khan, Bashir Ahmad Shah, Ghulam Hassan Rather, Gulzar Ahmad, Tafazul Hussain, Murtaza Khan, Wali Mohammad and Najeeb Ali Shiekh.

According to congress sources, the newly members of the party belonged to many walks of life including political parties.

Partinently, Goni, was political adviser to former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and Renzo was director information till recent past.

They said that Congress high Command also formed a disciplinary committee for Jammu and Kashmir and Gurmik Singh, G N Monga, Narbo Gailong, Vinod Sharma and Anvar Bhat were selected as its members.

In view of the coming parliamentary and assembly elections, Congress also formed an election committee for Jammu and Kashmir with state president Saif-ul-din Soz, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Tara Chand, Shamlal Sharma, M Sharif Niyaz, B A Magray, Sham Paul, Khem Lata Wukhloo,  Ravinder Sharma and M Aslam as its members.

The party formed a coordination committee for the state as well which is comprised of Ambika Soni, Saif-ul-din Soz, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Abdul Manan, Tara Chand and Muzafar Parray etc.
