The residents of Chanpora area of Kawarhama in north Kashmir’s Tangmarg town Thursday protested against Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Tangmarg for issuing orders against the protection wall of their land.

Holding placards, scores of residents from the area demonstrated here in Press Enclave Srinagar against a land mafia being in vogue in the village initiated by some brokers, allegedly backed by SDM Tangmarg, Shabir-Ul-Hassan. They alleged that the SDM is habitual of such mafias.

“We have taken some preventive measures for the preservation of the section-05 type of land at Chanpora, Gonipora which we fear is merchandised by the brokers backed by the SDM,” they said.

The angry residents protested against SDM for issuing orders against the protection wall of the said preserved land.

They also alleged that the SDM was encouraging and backing the brokers, warning that if any law and order problem arises out of the said situation “the whole responsibility would lie on the SDM.”

The villagers reiterated that they will protect the said land at any cost and will not allow the SDM to use the power to back the brokers and other vested interest persons.

“The SDM is misusing his position and power to benefit the vested interest persons,” alleged Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh, a resident of Gonipora-Chanapora.

He said that a file regarding section-05 is pending before the SDM Tanmarg and accused him of asking for a bribe to clear that file.

However, the SDM Tangmarg Shabir-Ul-Hassan while denying the allegations told Kashmir Life over the phone that all the allegations were baseless and we are not annoying them but they are illegally occupying the land.
