Tense situation prevailed near Nowhatta and other adjoining areas of old city Friday as clashes broke out soon after the noon prayers, reports said.
Sources said scores of youth assembled near the restive Nowhatta square and hurled stones at the posse of J&K Police personnel.
Recently, a group of mask-clad youth had unfurled posters of Hizb militant Burhan Wani near the square. Few days ago, wall graffiti eulogizing him had also shown up throwing the security grid in tizzy.
Sources claimed that Police allegedly detained many youth from the area. When Kashmir Life contacted the local police station, the officials expressed ignorance.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports informed that a boy was injured during the clashes. They added that cameraman of News 24 was also injured while covering the clashes. More details are awaited.
