SRINAGAR: Security restrictions remained in place for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in parts of Srinagar, with authorities continuing measures to prevent public gatherings around the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib, officials said.

A heavy deployment of police and paramilitary personnel continued across the Nowhatta and Naqshband Sahib areas of the old city to maintain law and order. Movement restrictions also remained in force at key locations as a precautionary measure.
The restrictions follow extensive security arrangements enforced on Monday, when authorities sealed the Martyrs’ Graveyard and surrounding areas to prevent assemblies on July 13, which is observed by many in Kashmir as the anniversary of the 1931 killings.
July 13 commemorates the killing of 22 protesters, who were shot dead by the Dogra army outside Srinagar Central Jail in 1931.
