SRINAGAR

The authorities Wednesday imposed restrictions on public assembly in the civil lines area of the city to prevent people from attending in the traditional Muharram processions in the area.

A police officer told Kashmir Life that the restrictions have been imposed in view of an order from No. DM/JW/Muharam/3082-3087/13 dated 11-11-2013, issued on Monday by the district Magistrate Srinagar.

He further said that restrictions are imposed in the area coming under police stations of Saheheed Gunj, Masiuma, Kothibagh, Batamaloo, Ram Munshi Bagh and Karan Nagar.

Pertinently, authorities are not allowing the traditional processions of Muharram which are organized in the civil lines area of the city.

The ban is in place since 1989 when militancy erupted in Kashmir.
