Srinagar

Authorities on Friday imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar to prevent protests against growing incidents of braid chopping in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Restrictions under section 144 of CrPc will remain in force in Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Safa Kadal, Kralkhud and Maisuma. The restrictions have been imposed to maintain law and order in the city,” a police officer said.

Meanwhile, government placed Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest ahead of his scheduled visit to Charar-e-Sharif shrine.

Reports said that a posse of policemen arrived at the Nigeen residence of the Mirwaiz and informed him of his detention.

Mirwaiz was scheduled to address the Friday congregation at Charar-e-Sharif in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Resistance leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik have called for the post-Friday prayer protests.
