The deceased was identified as Naib Subedar (Retd) Lakhvinder Singh, who suffered critical injuries after coming into contact with the string. He was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries, the reports said.

Singh was reportedly returning to his home in R S Pura after completing work at an industrial unit in Bari Brahmana, where he was employed as a private security guard.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the continued sale and use of Chinese kite string, commonly known as ‘manja’, despite its prohibition by the authorities.

Several shopkeepers have been arrested in recent times across Jammu for allegedly dealing in the banned material, according to reports.

Meanwhile, residents have called for stricter enforcement of the ban and action against those involved in selling or using the prohibited string.
