SRINAGAR: National Conference MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to review cases registered under the Public Safety Act (PSA) against children, while raising issues related to industrial policy, reservation, journalists’ welfare and road infrastructure in the Legislative Assembly.
Speaking during Zero Hour, Sadiq referred to the situation following the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and said some children had taken part in protests, after which cases under the PSA were registered against them.
He said cases against children in Ladakh were later withdrawn and asked the Jammu and Kashmir Government to consider similar action.
“If it was possible there, why can’t it be done here? If we can do this, our children should also be released from jails,” he said.
Sadiq also called for expediting implementation of the Industrial Policy, urging the government to take up the matter at the earliest.
On road infrastructure, he stressed the need for proper macadamisation and said adequate layering should be ensured during bitumen work to improve the quality and durability of roads.
He sought an update on the reservation file and asked the government to clarify its status, referring to concerns raised by Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma.
Sadiq also raised the General Category file, urging that it be returned after necessary action.
He sought measures to improve the welfare of journalists in Jammu and Kashmir, including pension and other benefits available to journalists in some other states.
