SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government is considering a revised car policy that proposes to introduce the principle of “one vehicle-one officer”, Transport Minister Satish Sharma informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
The Minister was responding to a question raised by MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania.
He said the proposed policy would include specific exceptions wherever considered necessary by the government, keeping in view security requirements, field duties, additional assignments or charges, operational exigencies and the functional requirements of particular departments and organisations.
“After approval of the Revised Car Policy by the Government, the provisions thereof shall be implemented across the concerned Departments, PSUs, Boards and Autonomous Bodies as per the approved policy,” Sharma said.
He said the proposed “one vehicle-one officer” principle was aimed at rationalising government vehicles, ensuring optimum utilisation of available resources and promoting economy in government expenditure.
The minister further said the State Motor Garages Department conducts timely audits and physical verification of the government vehicle fleet.
