After cracking all major professional entrance examinations in 2009-10, Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan finally joined IIT Roorkee and completed his Engineering from IIT Himachal Pradesh in July 2014. Athar had upto 2010 passed CET, AIEEE, BITSAT, almost all the entrance exams he appeared in. But IITJEE eluded the countrtside boy.
Athar belongs to modest village of Devipora, Mattan in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district. He is the youngest boy, 22, from valley to get in to the service.
He even joined Gopvernment Medical College Jammu but pursued his ‘IIT dream’. And in 2015, he is one of 7 Kashmiris selected in the prestigious Indian Administrative Service. The results of IAS-2014 batch were declared Saturtday afternoon.
Speaking to Kashmir Life from New Delhi, Athar credited his success to his parents, teachers and friends. “Yes, parents make way for you and teachers chisel your abilities,” he said. “My friends have been always encouraging me.”
Athar did his schooling from Iqbal Memorial Institute, Islamabad upto Matric and twelfth from Tydale Biscoe, Srinagar in 2009.
He believes, “right guidance at right time is must.”
“Hard work and commitment is a must,” he added.
Athar, while studying BTech was preparing for civil services. As he completed his degree in July 2014, he joined a coaching academy in Indian capital, New Delhi.
“Focus, and one has to be into-it,” Athar said when asked what is the mantra behind cracking civil services.
So far, seven Kashmiris have been identified in the IAS results declared by Union Public Service Commission this afternoon, including Baseer-Ul-Haq, Ruveda Salam, Afaq Giri, Deeba Farhat, Choudhary Yaseen, Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan and Ankit Koul.
