The recently constructed embankments constructed by the flood and irrigation department at Lasjan have collapsed due to the recent rains and snowfall.

The residents of Lasjan were shocked to see that the 200-300 feet wall collapsed, as it was built 3 months ago and also some of the work was yet to be completed.

Talking to Kashmir Life the residents were dismayed and up in arms against the concerned department.

They informed that the work was not done according to the standards of construction. “The half of the wall was built on the already constructed old stone wall that couldn’t bear the weight as the foundation was not so strong,” they alleged.

Experts say that the plinth of the embankment should have been laid 6-8 feet deep, however, that was not done.

The residents of Lasjan Srinagar demanded that the river side wall should be re-constructed as soon as possible and action should be taken against the contractor and the concerned engineers who didn’t work according to the norms and standards of engineering.

While the department has deployed the man power reinforcing the sandbags in defense that are being lowered into the place by the laborers.

Kashmir Life has learned that the wall cannot be constructed due to the rise in water level.

Experts informed that the construction cannot take place due to the rise in water level followed by the recent rains and snowfall.
