Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, K K Sharma, on Friday said that the role of intellectuals is pivotal to propagate the teachings of religiousness for peaceful and mutual co-existence of different sections of the society.

The Advisor was speaking at a one day talk on the “Relevance of Buddhist Psychology in modern world” organized by the University of Jammu for the world-renowned Buddhist scholar Dhhamadeepa in Jammu on Friday.

Vice-Chancellor, Jammu University, Dr Manoj Dhar and senior faculty members of different departments were present.

The Advisor said that it is the need of the hour that the intellectuals should come and synergize their thought process for ensuring that the world becomes a peaceful place to live as they are the opinion makers of every region and society. He said they should also collectively educate the people about the various positive things about peace and mutual co-existence which would go a long way in ensuring that the world becomes a better place to live.

While referring to the rich syncretic traditions of Jammu and Kashmir, the Advisor said that the seers and saints of these regions have contributed immensely in preaching the concepts of mutual co-existence and communal harmony which has been acknowledged globally. He said that the need of the hour is to effectively propagate their teachings in the modern context as they are more relevant in today’s world and posterity would also get benefited by these.

The world-renowned Buddhist scholar, Dhhamadipa while giving an extensive lecture spoke about the relevance of Buddhist psychology in the modern world and dwelt on different concepts of Buddhism and its relevance in today’s world. He said that the job of religions is to create peace and harmony among different sections of society and we should all synergize our activities for creating a world of peaceful co-existence.

The talk was also followed by a question-answer session as well in which academicians and students participated.
