SRINAGAR: The Ladakh Administration has sanctioned Rs 1.52 crore in compensation for the families of four people killed and 44 injured during the violence in the Union Territory on September 24, 2025, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said on Sunday.
Under the approved package, the next of kin of each of the four deceased will receive Rs 15 lakh, while people who suffered major injuries will be given Rs 3 lakh each and those with minor injuries will receive Rs 1 lakh each.
The compensation package comprises Rs 60 lakh for the four deceased, Rs 72 lakh for 24 people with major injuries and Rs 20 lakh for 20 people with minor injuries.
The September 24 violence had resulted in four deaths and injuries to 43 civilians, according to the UT Administration. It said the compensation decision was taken as Ladakh did not have a general policy providing financial assistance in cases of death or injury arising from public unrest or rioting.
The Administration said it examined the matter to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected families and injured individuals. Saxena, who took charge as Lieutenant Governor in March this year, accorded priority to the issue and worked towards finalising the compensation package.
The UT Administration said the assistance was intended to support the affected families and individuals and express solidarity with them.
Saxena expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his “sensitive, humanitarian and guiding approach” and for standing in solidarity with the victims and their families.
“While no compensation amount can replace a life lost or erase the pain endured, the Ladakh Administration firmly stands beside every affected family in their journey towards healing and overcoming the grief,” Saxena said.
