District Development Commissioner Islamabad, Muneer Ul Islam Wednesday convened a high level review meeting regarding development of Islamabad town under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.

District Development commissioner said that Islamabad is among fortunate towns that have been selected under the AMRUT scheme that aims transformation of the town into “Greater Islamabad” on modern lines of development, an official statement said this evening.

The DC said, “total project cost for transforming Islamabad town into ‘Greater Islamabad’ has been estimated to the tune of Rs 500 Crore, which shall be spent on beautification and development of the town in next five years.”

He also asked officers of the departments concerned to prepare proposals as per guidelines of AMRUT and to ensure Urban Transformation Mission is started in the district without any delay.

Emphasising on making the district a tourist hub, DDC directed officers of R&B and Floriculture departments to work in collaborative manner and tap resources under AMRUT scheme for beautification of the district and to make it clean and green.

He also directed them to reclaim footpaths alongside KP road and Batengoo-Khanabal road and prepare joint proposals for beautification of the said roads.

DDC said that under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), the government is aiming to improve existing basic infrastructure services viz clean drinking water supply, improving sewerage networks, laying of storm water drains, improving public transport services, creation of foot bridges and creating green public spaces like parks with special focus on creating healthy open spaces for children.

Under this AMRUT scheme, the government has targeted transformation of 500 cities, which have been selected on the basis of population i.e. one lakh and above, he added.
