Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today informed the house that Rs 8.15 crore have been released to JKPCC for construction of Government Degree College, Banihal.

Replying to a question by Vikar Rasool Wani, the Minister said the college is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 11.67 crore. He said RS 8.15 crore has already been released for the construction works of the College and the remaining amount of Rs 3.52 crore will be released during the next financial year.

Giving details about the construction work, the Minister said 50% slab work for the academic block has been completed while shuttering of remaining 50% steel work is in progress. He said the college shall be completed by December 2017 subject to availability of funds.

Naeem Akhtar said currently the college is functioning from Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Banihal and due to limited availability of infrastructure at this makeshift campus, medical subjects have not been offered to the students so far.

Regarding enhancement of wages of IDF engaged in different colleges, the Education Minister said the department has increased remunerations in favor of local fund employees from Rs 125 to Rs 150 per day.
