Counting in the just concluded Rajya Sabha polls for four seats was further delayed as BJP wants four votes polled by lawmakers were illegal. Though the presiding officer does not support the allegation, BJP wants a ruling by the Election Commission.
BJP lawmakers say that four politicians who were elected to the assembly in 2014 polls are not valid because the voters continue to have dual membership. Members of the state legislative council, they have not resigned from the house of elders, the BJP alleges.
Sources in the assembly told KL that though the presiding officer has no problems in their votes, the BJP is keen to get a formal ruling from the Election Commission of India. “We are waiting for the verdict to start the process,” one official said.
The four votes that BJP disputes include that of Mohammad Ashraf Mir of PDP, Devinder Singh Rana, Javed A Rana and Abdul Majid – all from NC.
