SRINAGAR: National Conference leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has formally submitted his resignation as a Member of Parliament from the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, tendering his seat in the Eighteenth Lok Sabha with immediate effect.

In a letter dated November 3, 2026, addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Ruhullah said he was resigning under Article 101(3)(b) of the Constitution of India and Rule 240 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha.
“This resignation is voluntary and genuine, and is tendered of my own free will,” he wrote, requesting the Speaker to accept it.
The letter, bearing reference number 1305/MP/SGR/2026, formally communicates his decision to relinquish his membership of the Lok Sabha.
Ruhullah had announced his decision to quit the National Conference and resign from the Srinagar parliamentary seat earlier on Tuesday while addressing a gathering at Behishti Zehra Park in Budgam on the 26th death anniversary of his father, Aga Syed Mehdi.
His Lok Sabha seat will become vacant upon acceptance of the resignation by the Speaker. A by-election would subsequently be required to fill the vacancy.
