The strikes targeted several regions overnight, with residential buildings, energy infrastructure, and public facilities among the sites hit. Ukrainian emergency services confirmed that rescue operations were under way in multiple cities, warning the death toll could rise.

In the capital Kyiv, air defence units intercepted the majority of incoming drones, though falling debris damaged homes and caused power outages in several districts. Heavy bombardment was also reported in Kharkiv and Dnipro, where hospitals treated a surge of casualties.

President Volodymyr Zelensky as per New York Times condemned the attacks, calling them “another act of terror against civilians” and urging Western allies to expedite military aid and air defence systems.

Russia has intensified its aerial campaign in recent weeks, stepping up long-range strikes as the war enters its third year. The Kremlin said the attacks were aimed at military and logistical targets, but Ukraine insists civilians bear the brunt of the assault.

The United Nations and European leaders renewed calls for restraint, warning that continued escalation would further worsen the humanitarian crisis in the region.
