SRINAGAR: A rusted mortar shell was discovered and defused in a forward village near the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district.
Officials said the explosive device was first spotted by villagers in an open field at Bobiya in Hiranagar sector earlier in the day. Locals alerted the authorities, following which security forces rushed to the site and cordoned off the area.
A bomb disposal squad was quickly summoned, and after careful examination, the shell was safely neutralised without causing any damage to life or property. Officials confirmed that the mortar shell, believed to be old and rusted, posed no immediate danger once secured but could have resulted in harm if mishandled. [KNT]
