Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir Saturday said that the proposed Sainik Colonies in Kashmir is an “attack on the demography of J&K”.
“The allotment of the land in this way is a part of a well-designed plan for erosion of the special status under Article 370 which prohibits the allotment of land for settlement of any non-state subject within the state. It is also an attempt to harm the disputed character of Jammu and Kashmir under the UN resolutions,” a Jama’at statement said this afternoon.
“On the recommendation of Rajya Sainik Board (RSB), the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has already approved the allotment of about 173 kanals of land near Old Airport Srinagar for establishment of residential facilities for the non-state subject army officers and personnel but the RSB has demanded 350 kanals of land for the said purpose,” the statement said.
Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI) strongly condemns “this scheme of establishing a Sainik colony for the families of the army officers and personnel from outside the state deployed in this state”.
“It a sinister design to weaken the demographic character of the state which is not acceptable to the people here,” the statement alleged. Jama’at appeals all the pro-freedom political leaders and religious organizations and the civil society to come forward for “framing a joint strategy against this vicious scheme and educate the common masses about its ill-effects”.
