Jammu and Kashmir Police Saturday opened first women police cell in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
SSP Shopian Dr Shailendra Mishra inaugurated it at a function here.
A program in this regards was organised by District Police Shopian in the lawns of police station in which around 150 women volunteers participants including volunteers from Women’s wing of Degree College Shopian, Girls Higher Secondary Shopian and students from various institutions of Shopian.
Speakers from these institutions spoke on women rights, domestic violence, status of women in Islam and need for women cell in Shopian.
Speaking on the occasion, the SSP assured women that it is the prerogative of J&K Police to uphold the rights of the women and the “Women Cell will definitely make Shopian a better and safer place for the sisters of Shopian”.
He appealed them to come forward and utilize the services of this cell in case of any kind of crime against them.
The grievance cell received a complaint of domestic violence while the inauguration of the cell from a lady from Kanipora Shopian.
