SRINAGAR: On the directions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Cabinet Ministers Sakeena Itoo and Javed Ahmad Dar on Friday visited the shelling-affected areas of Baramulla district and frontier town Uri to assess the situation on the ground and ensure swift rehabilitation and medical assistance for victims.
The ministers began their visit at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, where they inquired about the condition of civilians injured in recent cross-border shelling. They expressed solidarity with the victims and their families and directed the medical staff to provide prompt and effective treatment.
“The government stands firmly with the affected people in this difficult time and is committed to their well-being,” the ministers assured families.
Later, the ministers travelled to Uri, where they visited several villages affected by ongoing shelling. They conducted on-spot assessments, met distressed families, and directed district authorities to prioritise civilian safety and expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts.
During the visit, the ministers also met the grieving family of Nargis, a young woman killed in the shelling, and extended heartfelt condolences. They promised full support and assistance from the government to the bereaved family and other affected residents.
At Sub-District Hospital Uri, the ministers met additional injured civilians and instructed the hospital administration to maintain adequate medical stock and staff to handle any emergencies. They emphasised preparedness in case of further escalation.
The ministers also visited Government Degree College (GDC) Uri, where displaced families have been sheltered. They directed the local administration to ensure round-the-clock availability of essential services, including food, medical support, and sanitation, for the victims. Instructions were also given to deploy sufficient doctors and staff for regular medical check-ups.
MLA Uri Sajjad Shafi, MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar, senior officers from the Baramulla district administration, and other concerned officials accompanied the ministers during the visit.
