SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir health Minister Sakina Itoo has appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and concerned authorities to introduce practical traffic management measures on the Srinagar–Anantnag–Kulgam–Qazigund National Highway to reduce public inconvenience during security convoy movements.
In a post on X, Itoo said frequent convoy restrictions were causing considerable hardships to commuters, with ambulances getting stranded, students missing classes and ordinary citizens facing delays ranging from 15 to 30 minutes to several hours.
Expressing concern over the situation, she questioned why people should be made to endure such difficulties while travelling along the busy highway.
Itoo urged the LG and the authorities to examine measures that would maintain essential security protocols while ensuring the uninterrupted movement of ambulances and minimising inconvenience to the general public.
“Security is paramount, but so is the well-being of our people. Security and compassion must go hand in hand,” she said.
She added that governance should be reflected in the everyday lives of citizens through dignity, sensitivity and meaningful relief.
