Samboora encounter: 7th in a week, top LeT commander believed to be trapped

As the gunfight raged in Samboora Pulwama late Sunday evening, this is the seventh encounter between government forces and militants in a week.

The encounter reports suggest started following a tip off about the presence of some suspected militants in the area.

Acting swiftly, a joint team of Army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Akram Dar Mohalla, Samboora, Pulwama”, said a police official.

The official said as the joint team intensified the search operation, the militants – believed to be three in number – opened fire, triggering an encounter.

According to the latest reports, exchange of intermittent firing was under way.

Top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Ayub Lelhari is believed trapped along with his men in encounter.
